051: Arianna Huffington – We Need to Accept

“We need to accept that we won’t always make the right decisions. That we’ll screw up royally sometimes. Understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.” -Arianna Huffington

Arianna Huffington is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Postone of the largest online news aggregators available. I’m pretty sure you can see the resemblance in the names. Other than being a prominent figure in the current affairs scene, she is also a woman’s rights activist and author.

As an entrepreneur, her most successful venture is The Huffington Post; As an author, her latest book is Thrive. It’s hard to pick out her ‘most successful’ book because she has written more than 10 books on various subjects. All in all, you know a person is a somebody if they have their own TED talk, this is hers.

The truth in her quote has been overstatement many times. However, it is best to keep repeating it so that everyone can get it in their heads and to push everyone past their comfort zones. If you want to get good at something, you will fail. When I teach public speaking, this is something I will keep telling my students. Public speaking is something that people won’t want to do due to fear, so I tell my students to just accept that they will fail, and that it’s the only way to get better. The ‘enemy’ here is not failure, the true enemy is the comfort zone.

I hope you get the message and that this quote motivates you today. If you know anybody who needs a boost, send them this comic right now.
