023: J.G. Holland – God Gives Every Bird

“God gives every bird its food, but He does not throw it into its nest.” – J.G. Holland

This was drawn by Smar. You can check out more of her work at her site.

J.G. Holland was a 19th century, American writer. His work is no longer popular, but they were widely read when they first came out. To be able to make an astute observation about how life works and to put it succinctly in one quote, that is pure genius. I felt like I had an epiphany when I first read the quote.

I found this quote in an inspiration quotes book I randomly picked up at a book fair. Though I’m not a religious person, I think this quote hold true. In this world, we have to actively seek out the things that keep us alive. Life won’t be as fun if everything was served to us on a sliver platter.

When I say, “things that keep us alive”, I don’t just mean food and water. Things that we want to do, experiences we want to have, and people we want to share our life with are all things that keep us alive. We should all strive to find these things. I believe that’s what makes life worth living. This idea of seeking worthy things is just like another comic we have.

What are the things that keep you alive? Tell me about them in the comments, and your story on how you look for them.
